A Reading Game at Home turns reading practice into one short mission a day. One mission, one finish line, done for today. It works for early readers and pre-K.

Why I built it

I built a reading game for my boys. One is learning to read. The little one is in pre-K.

I wanted short missions with a clear finish, and no ads.

The game checks what they already know and skips it, so nobody gets bored.

And the words matter. One mission said, find the twin of b. A four-year-old doesn't know what a twin is.

So it became: find the small letter b. This is A. A is for apple. Words a four-year-old knows.

Ten minutes a day, and we stop while it's still fun.

How you can use it

In the app or with a book

You can do this in the free app, or with a few letters on paper and any picture book.

  1. Pick one time each day. After snack, before screens.
  2. Start with letter sounds.Point to one letter and say it plainly. This is A. A is for apple.
  3. Blend sounds into short words.c, a, t: cat.
  4. Stop while it’s still fun.Mark the day done. One star is enough.

Tomorrow, start where you stopped. Skip what they already know.
