03Meet the maker

A note from the maker

I make room for real life.

I’m a mother. Anything I build has to leave room for interruptions.

The school form. The baby. The idea for a business that arrives while you’re doing something else. I know what it’s like to keep all of it in your head.

Something Lighter is where I turn those everyday tangles into practical things you can use. Sometimes it’s a notebook page. Sometimes it’s a small digital tool. I’ll show you the steps, too.

When your situation is a little different

A small adaptation.
Worked out in writing.

If one of my builds is close to what you need, describe the part that doesn’t fit. We can work out a clear, limited change in writing.

When everything feels urgent, start with one page.

You don’t need AI for this one. One notebook, ten minutes, and a brain dump that actually goes somewhere.

1. Empty the list.

For three minutes, write one thought per line. A task, a question, an idea. Don’t sort it yet.

2. Give each item a place.

Spend three minutes sorting your list under three headings:

Check dates against the actual form, message, or appointment. If a date is unclear, write “check date.”

3. Make one next step specific.

For two minutes, choose where to begin with your real deadlines in view. For example, “sort school stuff” becomes “find the school form and check its due date.”

4. Close the loop.

Use the last two minutes to put confirmed commitments into the calendar you already use. Choose when you’ll review the rest of the list.

You can stop after ten minutes and come back. Keep the page.

If you’d rather type, here’s the AI version.

Paste this into the AI tool you already use:

Help me sort this brain dump into: has a date, needs a next step, and can wait. Keep every item. Use only dates I give you; mark missing dates “check.” Don’t invent tasks or a timetable. Suggest up to three small next actions and let me choose one. Here’s my list: [paste your list].

Then compare the answer with your original list. Check for missing items, made-up dates, and priorities that don’t fit your actual day. You make the final choice.

A letter from Something Lighter

One page for a crowded mind.

I’m a mother. Anything I build for my life has to leave room for interruptions.

I’ve been thinking about that a lot lately. I’ve spent so much time building things, and I’m finally asking whether the way I work fits the life I’m actually living.

That question is shaping what I want to share here: practical ways to make everyday life easier, with the actual steps included.

Welcome to Something Lighter.

For this first one, let’s start with the list in your head.

The school thing. The dinner thing. The appointment you need to book. The idea you don’t want to forget. They can all end up in the same pile, even though they need different things from you.
